THE DANCER
Photographed in Berlin/Germany in 1999 for an advertising campaign, this dancer stood out. Her moves were different. Powerful yet extremely elegant and with such grace that I decided to paint her. This painting is created using a so called test Polaroid as reference. In the times of analog film, we did not have a computer to check the actual movement and lighting situation, therefore we used Polaroid film on the back of the camera to show the client and then proceeded with real film. The campaign was photographed in black and white. Using a Hasselblad medium format camera in the format 6×6 cm, the dark edge on the right is actually the camera’s cropping of the photo and also existed on the original polaroid. One of my early large format work.
Oil on canvas. 2001
